Setting: Outpatient/Telehealth

PATIENT NAME: Jordan Lee, 26 years old, was referred to your practice to discuss substance treatment.

You have up to 40 minutes to conduct this interview.

Tasks: Gather information to discuss potential options regarding how to best address the patient’s substance use.

Visit Objective

- Understand various stigmas, discriminations, and traumas that impact LGBTQ+ people.

- Summarize the intersections of LGBTQ+ identities, substance use, and mental health.

- Practice ways to effectively communicate about sexual orientation and gender identity in affirming ways.

- Utilize an identity-based approach when collecting information and guiding care.

Target Audience

Applicable to all providers, especially prescribers (MDs, DOs, NPs, PAs within primary care specialties such as family medicine and internal medicine) and mental health providers.
